Mexico Tres

Hello Friends

Right now we are in Mulege and I am having issues typing on this keyboard because the shift key is so small that I hit the wrong key every time I want to capitalize. Also, some of the other buttons are in different places. But this place is really great, a nice small town by the sea of cortez. We went kayaking yesterday and the water was so beautiful and clear. There were lots of fish and starfish and birds. It was beautiful. The owner of the restaurant/bar on the camp property let us use the kayaks for free. A guy named luke went out with us. We met him he night before at the restaurant. The owner gave us a free round and we all sat around listening to music and talking. We rocked out to Avril lavigne, alanis morrisette, and some oldish pop punk music. He was so excited that we wanted to listen to his music. We met some great new people. Love it!

On Tuesday, we went whale watching and it was more amazing than I could have imagined. We were in a smallish motor boat and the lagoon was filled with whales. You could see their spouting water everywhere. At first, they went away when the boat came near, but at the end a mama and baby came right up to the boat and were playing and going from one side of the boat to the other. Jack was able to touch a barnacle on one of them. It was incredible. I cant post any pictures because I am not using Jacks computer but hopefully sometime soon I can get some up on here and facebook. On the way into the lagoon, we passed a salt plant. It was crazy to see these mountains of salt with bulldozers on top. And also to see the salt being poured onto barges and crusing out onto the ocean.

Today or tomorrow we are headed to Loreto and then on the La Paz. We have been gone for 11 days now. It feels like 2!

For Devon: As far as birds go, here are the ones I know: Pelicans, seagulls, osprey. Here are some that I am guessing: boobies (black, and sort of skim across the water when they fly), cormorants(?). Also yesterday we saw a bird with this long tail that split into 2 that moved around while it flew. The guy we were with said he thought it was a scavenger and that it followed the other birds and ate their leftovers. Whaddya think? Oh yeah, we saw a little blue parakeet(?) just hanging out by the side of the road in some town. It was strange.

Love and miss all of you!

Mexico Dos

Hola amigos!

Tonight we are camping in the van in a small RV park in Guerrero Negro. We left Bahia De Los Angeles this morning after a little sadness that the sea turtle research station was closed. That was one of the big reasons we went there. We must learn to call places before he head off to them. But Bahia LA is beautiful albeit a little too windy for me. But I tire of wind easily after growing up in Hood River. Apparently this is one of the windiest times of the year there. We found a really nice beach this morning and wished we had camped on that side of the town. We took a long walk yesterday in the desert to try to find an abandoned mine, but we could not locate it. We had a most delicious dinner night before last at the campsites restaurant and a huge margarita while watching the Rock in "spy kids" (at least I think thats what movie it was). There was a damn mosquito in the van both nights. It didn't suck my blood as much as I thought it would, it just found joy in buzzing in my ear every half hour. I dont think that town ever sleeps, they just keep fishing and fishing... But I did get to see a lot of pelicans which are my most favorite bird.

Tomorrow we are going whale watching for 3 hours. We have to be there at 7:30 in the morning, which if you know me, means pain and suffering for everyone around for a good hour in the after I wake up. But I am really excited to see some baby whales (cross your fingers) and some mama whales. Then after that we are off towards Mulege. I doubt we will make it that far so we will probably stop and camp in Santa Rosalia.

Mexico is a little hard for me to be in sometimes because of the huge number of dogs and cats that roam the streets and are not taken care of. I have seen a couple little skinny kitties that just broke my heart. I get so close to just scooping them up and taking them with me, but that wont really work. The dogs are sad too because they get diseased and mangy and they make me almost cry. And they are everywhere.

My camera lens has dust or something all up in the inside of it where I cant get to. I need a solution for this, and fast...It shows up in the lighter colored pictures and kinda bums me out. I seem to always be having camera issues...

I'm not posting pictures tonight because it is too much work and I dont have the energy or patience to do it. Maybe next time!

Love to you all!

Mexico

Hola from Baja!
Tonight we are in El Rosario at this awesome motel:This place is only 27.00 a night, about 350 pesos! There are more pictures of the room, but uploading here takes forever and I want to post pictures of other things.
Last night we were near San Quintin at El Pabellon RV park. It was right on the beach. Here was the view from our van:

So far, Baja has been pretty fantastic. The people are friendly, the food is great and its beautiful. Although, the weather is a bit colder than I was expecting. But tomorrow we are heading to Bahia de Los Angeles where it is supposed to be warmer. But I am having a hard time looking up weather in Mexico in english so I actually dont know. The language barrier is definitely tough at times. A lot of people know english, but when they don't, I struggle badly. Perhaps I should have learned more spanish before I left. Here is Jack learning some spanish:

The first campground we were in was about 20 miles off the highway on this crazy unpaved road. It was an awesome place that was free, right on the ocean. The tidepools were pretty amazing. We saw big starfish, fish, crabs of all sorts and lots of beautiful anemone and urchins. I also saw this crazy pink thing that looked like it had a bunch of arms on it. I dont know if starfish have more than 5 arms but I dont know what else it could have been. It rained super crazy our second night there and the road out was way worse than when we drove in. We were almost out on the highway when we hit a puddle that was a lot deeper than we thought (it was like a small lake!) and the van stopped because the engine had been flooded. So we had to sit there for quite awhile until it dried out. But I must say we had the cutest roadblocks ever on the way in:

Baby cows! Cute!

Well, I am going to go lay down in our big ol' king size bed for the evening.

Miss everyone!

Lots of love

Wow

I haven't written in this since January. Before I went to Portland. I am not the best blogger. It also does not help that I do not have internet at my apartment. Yes, my apartment at the Tannery that I am not stoked to live in. Kitty cant really go outside, which sucks for both of us. Its a weird space. Its like living in a dorm with a crazy R.A (that would be the maintenance man, Eddie) who wants to get people in trouble for everything. We have already gotten a couple of lease violations. My roommate has gotten complained about multiple times by other residents. Although, this is no surprise as he is a pretty obnoxious guy who doesn't put his dog on a leash, gets obnoxiously drunk and spills wine all down the hall and smokes on the staircase. I have a feeling we will get kicked out, and frankly, I look forward to it. I have been looking at other places to live but everything down here is so goddamn expensive. If I have a car, I would live in the mountains.
Currently, I am in the mountains of Nevada City and Grass Valley. My friend William and I decided to take a trek out here and spend some time in the country. There is a show here that I wanted to see and he had been wanting to visit his brother so we made a week long trip out of it. Plus, there is a person here who I am visiting whose name shall not be mentioned. You can take a guess if you know me well enough.
Its been raining here pretty much constantly. Williams brothers house is super adorable. It feels like a cabin in the woods.
I wish I had the time, or rather, the patience to write about all the things I have been doing for the last 3 months, but thats a lot to write. I got a new (well, new to me) digital camera for a photographer I work with. I got in on trade for modeling. So, I will be able to start posting pictures once I set my computer up and have internet. This may take awhile. But I am sooo stoked to be taking pictures again. It fills me with joy. You know what else fills me with joy? Not having the stomach flu anymore. I got it yesterday and it was horrible. The crazy thing is, I had gotten the same thing 2 weeks previous on the same day. I can only hope it never happens again.

I want to be able to plant a garden.

Much love

Touring

Hello all.

Right now I am sitting in the green room of Mcnears mystic theater in Petaluma california listening to the Shaky Hands sound check. This is the second stop I have made with them and already I left something at someones house. That would be my jacket that I left in SF. Thankfully I brought two. The Meat Puppets just sound checked. This venue is pretty rad. Hanging out with the Meat Puppets is pretty amusing. They are pretty cool guys. Mostly its just me and the Shaky Hands. The show last night at Bottom of the Hill in SF was really good. The second band, Trainwreck Riders, was super good and fun and their lead singer amused me for awhile at the merch table.
We are headed to Eugene tomorrow. There is no show so we can drive there leisurely and hang out tomorrow night and Tuesday day. We will be driving to Portland Tuesday night after the show at WoW Hall. I will be ready to hang out on Wednesday. I will be staying at my old house. Well, I think that is the case unless the bathroom is unuseable, then I will stay elsewhere. I'm hoping to go to Drum n' Bass night on Wednesday night so if anyone is up for it let me know.
I will try to call as many people as I can on Wednesday but please feel free to call me if you want to hang out. I want to see everyone!
Love

Long time, no post

Holy crap. Its been awhile. A lot has happened. I moved out of my crappy living situation into a temporary space. The temp space is nice and cozy and right across the driveway from 2 of my friends. In fact, it was at one of these friends apartment where I first stayed when I got into town. Making a loop. I went and looked at the tannery apartments yesterday and was kind of disappointed. The three bedroom apartments have only one bedroom that has a door and a full 4 walls. Thats right, the other 2 rooms DONT EVEN HAVE DOORS! Is this normal? Not only do they not have doors, they only have 3/4 walls on one side so the whole rest of the apartment can see and hear what goes on in your bedroom. How can anyone have sex? Because all three of the bedrooms are along an inside wall they said they had to do it this way for ventilation and heating. You would think some architect somewhere could have done a better job than this. But I guess thats what I get for living in low income artist housing. Who cares if artists have privacy? My god. I guess we will be building some walls and putting some doors in. But then the bedrooms will have no natural light at all because they do not have windows. I think it is a social experiment to see how fast the government can make the artists in Santa Cruz go crazy. Wish I would have known this beforehand...

In other news, the weather has been gorgeous the past few days. I went to the beach today. In January. I put my feet in the ocean and they almost fell off, it was so cold. I went to see Howl's Moving Castle at the midnight movie last night. I liked it better the second time. I love his movies. They are amazing. I also like yerba mate, which is what I drank before the movie. And I like popcorn which is what I ate during the movie and what I will probably eat later.

I took Chris out to listen to some dubstep last week and he liked it. He even danced. Derrick sure did start a revolution with that dubstep. Although, I'm pretty sure it wasn't all him. I cannot wait to go out dancing in portland. I miss drum n' bass night terribly.

Speaking of Portland, I will be leaving on the Shaky Hands tour van this Saturday to head north. I should be in PDX by the 21st. It is going to be fantabulous.

Last night I learned that expensive Shamisens (crazy instrument, look it up if you dont know. Hopefully I spelled it right) are made out of cat or dog skin. Thats pretty gross. I kind of liked that instrument until learning that. Ignorance sure is bliss.

Be kind everyone. Peace.

Theres a chance...

I will be coming to Portland in January and be staying until mid february. That is, if everything works out and most importantly, if I find a place for my cat to stay. Heres hoping...

This weekend was really nice. I ate way too much food. And it was food I do not normally eat so I feel kind of bloated. My cat did really well on both the car trip there and back. I really think I can turn him into a gypsy kitty. Then we can travel all over together! I finally saw a White Christmas this weekend. I do not know how I have gotten through life without seeing that movie. My photo shoot on Saturday was really fun and mellow. The photographers were super nice and comfortable to work with. If anyone is curious what I have been up to: www.modelmayhem.com/inesl. This is my online portfolio. The nude pictures wont show up unless you have an account so don't be worried about seeing my naked body! Although, it is what I do most. Getting naked pays way better than keeping your clothes on.

There is an alarm going off in my house somewhere that is seriously getting on my nerves. I must find it and break it!
